Chole Aloo Tikki Chaat

Chole aloo tikki chaat is a popular north India street food .Aloo tikki is spiced potato patties whereas chole is hot spicy chickpea or dried white peas or dried green peas curry.
A super delicious lip-smacking hot spicy chaat packed with flavours of tamarind chutney, green chutney, curd, onions sev .This chaat can be served as a main course or an evening snack.
The aloo tikki is served with spicy chole with toppings of tamarind chutney green chutney chopped onions and sev.
I prefer using white peas or green peas in this recipe as it gives a thick gravy to the curry than chickpeas. The choice is perfectly yours.

How to make Chole Aloo Tikki Chaat

Serves: 5 to 6
Ingredients for Aloo Tikki
- 4 medium size potatoes boiled and mashed
- 4 green chillies chopped
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tbsp coriander leaves chopped
- ½ tsp onion seeds
- 1 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
Ingredients for chole
- 1½ cup dried white peas
- 2 onions chopped
- 1 ½ tbsp coriander powder
- 1 tbsp red chilli powder (adjust according to your taste)
- ½ tbsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp amchur powder (dry mango powder)
- 1 tsp garam masala powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp oil
For Garnishing
- Tamarind Chutney
- Green Chutney
- Chopped Onions
- Chopped Tomato
- Sev
- Pomegranate
Method
To make chole aloo tikki chaat soak the white peas completely in water for 8 to 10 hours. After the soaking period, pressure cook the chole with salt and soaked water, adding additional water if required. Cook till chole are soft and tender.When you press the chole between your fingers it will mash easily.
Heat oil in a deep pan add chopped onions fry till onions are just translucent.
Now add in coriander cumin powder and chilli powder.Fry for a minute and add chole cook for 5 minutes. Add rest of ingredients cook for 5 minutes.
Boil the potatoes till they are cooked well.Peel and chop the potatoes very small pieces.
Heat oil in a pan add cumin seeds and let it fry for few seconds . Add green chillies fry for a while , Now add in potatoes peas and all ingredients ,mix well,cook for a minute. Mash with a masher then let it cool.
Take medium size portion from the potato mixture and flatten into round patties.
Brush a shallow frying pan or tawa with 1 tsp oil ,heat the tawa place the tkki on the frying pan. Keep turning them at regular intervals and fry till crisp and golden brown.
To Assemble Chole Aloo Tikki Chaat
- Place the aloo tikki on a platter.
- Add some hot chole on top of the hot tikkis.
- Add tamarind chutney , curd and a spoon of green chutney on top of it.
- Sprinkle chopped onions , tomatoes , chopped coriander , pomegranate and sev and serve.
