Most of the time I make homemade sambar powder, fresh just enough for one-time preparation. Making it at home is easy and can be prepared in just a few minutes, it is flavourful and hygienic.

Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • 1 tbsp Coriander Seeds ( Dhana)
  • 10 – 12 Black pepper corns ( Meeree)
  • 1 Tbsp Mustard Seeds (Rai)
  • 4 dried Red Chilli (Lal Mirch )
  • 1 Tbsp  ( Urad Dal )
  • 1 Tbsp ( Chana Dal)
  • ¼ Tbsp Fenugreek Seeds ( Methi)
  • 2 Tbsp Dry Coconut
  • 2  Tbsp Curry leaves ( Karipatta)

Method

Sambar masala powder
  • In a broad pan sauté all ingredients on low flame till it gives out a good aroma.
  • Remove from heat and cool.
  • Grind to a fine powder.
  • Store in an airtight jar.
  • Remains fresh in the fridge for 6 months.
