These jars are the best for freezing liquid and are less likely to break.

What can i freeze in glass jars?

How to freeze liquid in a glass jar ? Solids and fluids like soups sauces can be freeze without any problem in glass jars. Freezing liquid is the problem, fluids don’t have air pockets in the jars into which the frozen food can expand. Therefore the risk of breaking glass is higher. There is a small trick to prevent breaking.

How to prevent breaking the jar ?

When freezing water expands and completely fills up the jar which leads to breaking. Even if the liquid freeze without breaking, the chances of break is high in thawing.

To avoid this, only fill about three-quarters of each glass and ensure that you freeze them standing. This way you keep enough space for the fluids to expand and the stress on the glass is equally distributed on all sides.

Jars with a broad top, when expanding, the frozen food pushes slightly upwards and reduces the pressure even more. Wide mouth jars are less likely to break, simply because there is more space to expand and pressure is spread across a larger area.

Though I at times have also use narrow mouth bottles for storing, filling only three-quarters of it have prevented it from cracking, try to avoid and use wider ones instead.

Cool down the temperature of food to room temperature and than only place in the freezer.

When jars are tightly capped before freezing, they tend to break more often. If you just loosely place the lid on until the fluid is totally frozen the jars hold up better. Once the fluid is frozen, tighten the lid.

Thawing the frozen food

Thawing solid food is not a problem .

Thaw fluids slowly. Ideally, you should place the jars into the refrigerator for a few hours. NEVER PLACE JARS STRAIGHT FROM THE FREEZER INTO HOT OR BOILING WATER. BREAKING OF GLASS IS FOR SURE.

Hope this article helps you to freeze your liquid and get rid of plastic.
