Grated Gooseberry ( Awla ) Candy is a rich source of vitamin C and rich in antioxidants, which help fight free radicals. Sundried sweet Grated Gooseberry Candy is a very good method of preserving the fruit, These can be used as mouth fresheners and appetizers. 

.Gooseberry or Awla is most popularly known in India as a very nourishing fruit. It is very rich in vitamin C. Both dried or fresh can be served for their respective health benefits. Taking Gooseberry powder every day helps in improving digestion and is helpful in treating burning sensations in the abdomen.

Awla helps in digestion and cures acidity. It helps build up resistance against respiratory tract diseases.

Try to include awla in the diet in form of jam, chutneys, pickles, juice add in vegetables and rice.

How to make grated awla candy

Grated Awla
Wash and dry the awla. Grate the awla in a grater remove seeds while grating.
Grind ginger to a fine paste
Grind ginger to a fine paste.
Mix all Ingredients
Mix all ingredients ,powdered sugar , pink salt ,black salt ,chaat masala and pepper powder with ginger paste.
Grated awla
Mix the ginger-mix paste with the grated awla .Mix properly.
Mix the grated beetroot with the awla . Cover with a thin muslin cloth and sun dry for 5 to 7 days till completely dried. Keep stirring once every day.
Store in a air tight container.

U can have it after meals. It can be stored in an airtight container for more than a year.

Recipes

Ingredients:

  • Gooseberry (Awla) 1kg
  • Powdered Sugar 300gm
  • Rock Salt 1.5 Tablespoon
  • Black Salt ½ Tablespoon
  • Black pepper powder ½ Tablespoon
  • Chaat Masala ½  Tablespoon ( to make home made chaat masala)
  • Ginger paste 10gm
  • Grated Beetroot 60 to 80 gm (to give a natural colour)

Method

  • Wash gooseberry (awla) and wipe with a clean kitchen towel to dry it.
  • Grate the awala with a grater.
  • Mix all ingredients with the grated gooseberry (awla)
  • Spread in a big steel or glass plate, cover with a thin muslin cloth keep to dry in sun for 5 to 7 days.
  • Stir it up and down once everyday.
  • When grated awla dries completely store in an airtight container.

Note: Beetroot is added only to give a pink colour, if you don’t want a pink colour u can omit the beetroot.
If you want a dark pink colour you can increase the beetroot quantity.
